About the League for Pastoral PeoplesThe League for Pastoral Peoples and Endogenous Livestock Development is an advocacy and support group for pastoralists who depend on common property resources. HistoryThe League was founded in 1992 by German veterinarian Dr. Ilse Köhler-Rollefson after she had witnessed the critical situation of pastoralists in Jordan, Sudan and especially India during her research activities. The League was registered as a non-profit organization under German law in the following year. The majority of LPP members have backgrounds in veterinary medicine, agriculture and anthropology. MissionLPP provides technical support, advisory services and advocacy for pastoral societies and other small-scale livestock keepers to help them pursue their own vision of development and to stand their ground in the face of unfavourable policy and marketing environments and alienation of their grazing grounds. LPP is also a resource organization for holistic and people-centred livestock development. It promotes the concept of endogenous livestock development relying on indigenous knowledge and institutions, and local resources such as breeds and feed. The ultimate goal is livestock development that addresses problems affecting livelihoods and human well-being at local, national and international levels. Objectives
