The yak markers show the pastoralist groups that keep yaks. Click on a pin for information on that group.

The red dots give information on ofiicial organizations that conduct research and development on yaks or provide support to yak herders.

The green dots give information on non-government organizations and cooperatives involved in yaks.

The light shaded area shows the approximate natural range of domesticated yaks (Bos grunniens) according to Lanzhou University. Yaks are also kept outside this area, particularly in North America and Europe.

The red outline shows the distribution of wild yaks (Bos mutus) according to the IUCN red list of endangered species.
