We conduct research and advocacy that supports and strengthens “small-scale” livestock keepers. In collaboration with our wide international networks of organisations that represent the interests of local livestock keepers – many among them pastoralists – we develop alternative approaches, challenge mainstream opinions, and build up the case for strengthening livestock keepers through appropriate policies and interventions. We support livestock keepers to make visible and validate their traditional knowledge and resources. A special emphasis is on building the capacity of our partners to stand up for their rights under international legal frameworks and agreements, such as the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resources (GPA), the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the UN Convention on Combating Desertification (UNCCD).
