One Response to Nari Shakti Award 2016 for Dr. Ilse Köhler-Rollefson

  1. Thomas Loquang says:

I would like to congratulate Dr Ilse Köhler-Rollefson for being honoured with the Nari Shakti (Women Power) Award by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, for her many years of passionately promoting and creating awareness on the importance of pastoralist communities on the conservation of animal genetic resources; together with her team in the League for Pastoral Peoples and Endogenous Livestock Development (LPP) and other collaborators. A case in point are the Raikas; the custodians of camels in Rajasthan, India.
Your many publications and participation at many FAO and other fora the world over to personally emphasize the efforts of pastoralists in the conservation of animal genetic resources, are a tangible testimony to this. I also agree with you that the pastoralists are getting little for their conservation efforts; their rights need to be recognized and rewarded for their consistent efforts over the millennia. I also take this occasion to thank the Selection Committee for targeting Dr Ilse for the Nari Shakti prize; the honour is well deserved.
